Chancre: What is soft chancre?

Chancre:  Also known as soft chancre, it is a bacterial disease that causes painful genital ulcers. This bacteria is transmitted sexually through skin contact, or when there is a wound or when there is contact with the pus from the ulcer.

The bacteria that causes it is called Haemophilus ducreyi , and after approximately one or two months it will heal on its own. However, when lymph node inflammation occurs it can cause fistulas in the groin. It is best to use a contraceptive method for prevention.

The “advantage” of this disease is that, since it is bacterial, it can be cured simply with antibiotics. On the other hand, it is advisable to go to a doctor before taking medication or taking measures, since it depends a lot on each body.

While you have the infection, you should preferably avoid having sexual relations , since you put the other person at risk. This is a form of prevention. On the other hand, it is important to consider a check-up at least once a year in general, that is, a health check-up.

Symptoms of chancre

It begins to appear as a red bump, then turns white (when pus begins to accumulate) and ends up looking like an ulcer or sore.

Symptoms begin to be visible after 10 days of infection, which are only:

  • One or more soft ulcers
  • Pain or severe discomfort in the lymph nodes

This sexually transmitted disease can sometimes be confused with other symptoms such as syphilis . For this reason, a clear and specific diagnosis is important.   Chancre in men tends to appear more often as this type of lesions when infected. In the case of women, this type of sore may sometimes not appear.

To detect or confirm this STI , a specialist must carry out the process of isolating the bacteria by culture and thus obtain the positive or negative result of said infection.

If you experience one or both symptoms, go to a specialist immediately, rule out any possibility, and if positive, provide treatment in time.
