Endometriosis 

Endometriosis is the appearance or growth of endometrial tissue beyond the uterus, causing pain, heavy bleeding and infertility problems.

Endometriosis can be considered a common condition, which can be hereditary. Endometriosis can be diagnosed when you start having irregular menstrual bleeding. In most cases, it is diagnosed after the age of 25 to 35 .

Some of the main symptoms are:

  • Painful periodEndometriosis
  • Lower abdominal pain before and after menstruation ( colic )
  • Discomfort during sexual intercourse.
  • Pelvic discomfort or lumbago that can occur at any time

Some of the most common causes of endometriosis are the growth of cells that are added to certain parts of the body such as:

  • Ovaries
  • Bowels
  • Straight
  • Bladder
  • Lining in the pelvic area

It is very important to visit a  gynecology specialist for evaluation and to begin treatment.  

Your doctor will be able to perform an assessment and ultrasound to provide you with an accurate diagnosis.

What are the symptoms of endometriosis?

  • Very painful periods
  • Lower abdominal pain before and during menstruation
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Recurrent crampy pelvic pain
  • Very heavy menstrual bleeding ( heavy menstrual cycle )
  • Irregular menstrual bleeding

Tests to detect this condition are:

  • Transvaginal ultrasound
  • Pelvic laparoscopy. This procedure allows for an intervention without the need for an invasive procedure, in addition to having a very quick recovery.

Endometriosis Treatment

There is currently no treatment for endometriosis , however there are a series of recommendations for women who live with this condition, which helps reduce the associated discomfort.

  • In mild cases, it is usually treated with analgesic medications to relieve discomfort.
  • More severe cases require surgery.
  • Assisted reproduction treatment , if you are looking for a pregnancy

Changes that favor

  1. Eat foods rich in calcium, phytoestrogen and vitamin C
  2. Avoid excess sugar, fats and coffee
  3. Get active, exercise generates endorphins that reduce pain
  4.  Don’t use tampons
  5. Take infusions

Treatment for this condition will depend on the age of the patient, the severity of the symptoms, and whether or not she wishes to keep her uterus. Treatment may be with medication or surgery.
